The Texas Chainsaw Massacre II

texaschainsaw2Genre: Horror
Year: 1986
Country: USA

aka: Texas Chainsaw 2

Director: Tobe Hooper
Starring: Dennis Hopper, Caroline Williams, Jim Siedow, Bill Moseley, Bill Johnson

After a decade of silence… the buzz is back!

Vanita “Stretch” Brock works as a DJ at a small radio station in Dallas and one night she gets a call from two bratty high school seniors that are having fun by doing some fast driving while intoxicated on the highway.

Stretch records them while they are brutally attacked by someone and this recorded tape will put her in great danger by a twisted and demented family of meat loving cannibals. Her only help comes in a former Texas Ranger nicknamed Left, who has his own reasons for going up against this family of butchers.

It would take incredible twelve years between the first Texas Chainsaw and the first sequel, an unheard of break today when it comes to popular horror films that made money. The idea of churning out sequels for a quick buck started in the eighties though, especially with the slasher icons such as Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger. It’s no surprise that they thought this might work for the Texas Chainsaw story aswell, since the original after all has one of the most interesting and iconic killer in the Leatherface character.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There’s not that much you can say about this iconic horror movie that hasn’t been said already. To save you time I can say right away that if you haven’t seen this film, then you have been missing out. It is such a big part of cinema history and it is rightfully credited for changing the genre forever.

Something is alive in the funhouse… something that, tonight, will turn the funhouse into a carnival of terror!

Amy Harper is a young lady going on date with Buzz. Together with another couple they decide that it’s a good idea to go to the local carnival that are only there for a few days. Amy’s little brother Joey knows that she lied to her parents when she told them they where going to the cinema instead of the carnival, so he sneaks out to follow them to the carnival to see what they are up to.

The carnival is filled with strange, sleazy and weird carnies, even more than what you would expect at a carnival. The four decides that it would be a great idea to spend the night at the carnival. They hide inside of the scary funhouse til the carnival closes, spying on the carnies when they see that one of the freaks that have been walking around in a Frankenstein mask is trying to pay a lady for sex. Before they even get undressed, he “finishes” and he wants his money back. When the lady refuses, he gets mad and kills her. The teens have seen enough and are now trying to get out of the place, but they have been spotted and will not be able to get out without a fight.

The Toolbox Murders

toolboxmurdersGenre: Horror
Year: 2004
Country: USA

aka: Hotel Terror

Director: Tobe Hooper
Starring: Angela Bettis, Brent Roam, Marco Rodriguez, Rance Howard, Juliet Landau

Another legacy begins

Nell and her boyfriend Steven are the newest tenants at the old building called Lusman Arms. While they try their best to renovate the old apartment, Nell starts to hear strange voices around the building, and also starts to notice that some of the neighbors are becoming missing.

Nell starts to become obsessed with finding out what is going on in this building and the history of it does not make her less concerned. The place has a long line of missing tenants and the man who built the building was heavily into the occult. While trying to find answers, Nell herself becomes a target and might end up being the next one missing…

Toolbox Murders is a remake of a late 70’s slasher film that some might find a bit underrated. Why they decided to remake the film is beyond me since the original film doesn’t have that big of a following and there is hardly any need to use the name of that one to make a new film about a crazy killer in a building.

Body Bags

bodybagsGenre: Horror
Year: 1993
Country: USA

Directors: John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper
Starring: John Carpenter, Alex Datcher, Robert Carradine, Stacy Keach, Mark Hamill

Zip yourself in tight!

Body Bags is a horror anthology film with three segments that all revolve around dead bodies that The Coroner is examining. The style is very much in the same sense as Tales from the Crypt and the coroner is played by John Carpenter himself, who also directed the first two stories and gave the last one over to Tobe Hooper.

The first segment is called The Gas Station and surprisingly enough, that’s the premise for the story. Anne is having her first shift, which happens to be a night shift, at the gas station near Haddonfield, Illinois where a serial killer has recently escaped from a mental hospital.

The Gas Station is the most suspenseful of the bunch and that is only thanks to the masterful skills of John Carpenter. He can pretty much take any setting and add creepiness to it. There is a very lonely and vulnerable feeling in this segment, but there is also some very cheap choices like the decisions or lack of that Anne does nearing the end of it. It is still the best segment out of the three and definitely worth watching. Also look out for cameo’s by Sam Raimi and Wes Craven.
