Camel Spiders

camelspidersGenre: Horror / Action
Year: 2011
Country: USA

Director: Jim Wynorski
Starring: Brian Krause, C. Thomas Howell, Melissa Brasselle, Frankie Cullen, Hayley Sanchez

They really get under your skin

Captain Mike Sturgess and his squad is in a tough battle against Taliban soldiers in Iraq. Suddenly, the Taliban soldiers stop shooting back and are found dead. Sturgess brings the bodies of his own fallen soldiers back to the US, but it seems like he is taking home more than he wished for.

While driving a truck with the bodies in the back, a coffin falls out and a group of camel spiders are let loose to terrorize the nearby small town. Sturgess and his Sergeant Shelly Underwood starts to work together with the local sheriff Beaumont to try to fight them off and keep the locals safe.

Camel Spiders sees a collaboration between the legendary producer Roger Corman, b-movie director Jim Wynorski and of course the Syfy channel. It is actually supposed to be based on real events from the Gulf War in the early 90’s, although very loosely of course.

arachnoquakeGenre: Horror / Comedy
Year: 2012
Country: USA

Director: Griff Furst
Starring: Tracey Gold, Edward Furlong, Bug Hall, Ethan Phillips, Olivia Hardt

The world will quake in fear

An earthquake in New Orleans unleashed hordes of white spiders who is not very friendly to humans. The spiders come in all kind of sizes and they have such power as running on water and breathing fire.

Another original Syfy production for us all to enjoy! This one doesn’t even try to be scary or horror at all. It almost plays like a spoof on any other movie Syfy has made in the last years.

Arachnoquake stars a very tired looking Edward Furlong (American History X, Terminator 2), the ageing but still lovely Tracey Gold (The Willies, Growing Pains) and some other actors that no one would recognize unless they know them in real life. Their characters aren’t really important and there isn’t any notable character development, so I don’t feel the need to write anything about them. It is directed by Griff Furst who also did such movies as Swamp Shark, Lake Placid 3 and Wolvesbayne. He is starting to build up quite an impressive filmography of cult movies.

2-Headed Shark Attack

2headedGenre: Horror
Year: 2012
Country: USA

Director: Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray
Starring: Carmen Electra, Charlie O’Connell, Brooke Hogan, Christina Bach Norman, David Gallegos

1 body, 2 heads and 6,000 teeth.

The Sea King boat is headed out for sea with a group of college students under the guidance of Professor Babbish and his wife. The expedition comes to a full halt when the boat gets damaged by the corpse of a dead shark.

The group heads to a nearby abandoned island while some of the crew is working on the boat and they soon find themselves in great danger when not only the island is about to crumble into the sea, but also by the terror of a bloodthirsty 2-headed shark!

Ask yourself this… are you that hungry for new shark films that you would want to see a new one just because the shark has two heads? I did, but would you really want to do that? Are we that hungry for shark films these days? I guess so…

piranhacondaGenre: Horror
Year: 2011
Country: USA

Director: Jim Wynorski
Starring: Michael Madsen, Rachel Hunter, Shandi Finnessey, Terri Ivens, Rib Hillis

Part snake! Part fish! All killer!

Piranhaconda! The most anticipated movie of 2012! Ok, maybe not, but I’ve been waiting for it. How could a movie with such a cool title, directed by Jim Wynorski and produced by Roger Corman be bad? Scratch bad, how could it not be fun?

Michael Madsen stars as Dr. Lovegrove (heh) and with his crew he is traveling to Hawaii to find the ancient beast known as piranhaconda. When they find the beast and it’s nest they steal one of its eggs and this upsets piranhaconda very, very much. On another side of the island a film crew is busy working on a new slasher flick starring the beautiful Kimmy (Shandi Finnessey) and stuntman Jack (Rib Hillis). Put in screenplay supervisor Rose (Terri Ivens) and you got yourself a love triangle to add to the mix.

Piranhaconda will remind you of another Syfy movie directed by Wynorski – Dinocroc vs. Supergator. Both movies where mostly filmed in Kaua’i in Hawaii and they sadly even decided to use the exact same locations on both movies. They could even be filmed back to back for all i know, but it’s something that brings down Piranhaconda a bit since I saw Dinocroc vs. Supergator first.

Dinocroc vs. Supergator

dinocrocvssupergatorGenre: Horror / Action
Year: 2010
Country: USA

Director: Jim Wynorski
Starring: David Carradine, Corey Landis, Amy Rasimas, Rib Hillis, John Callahan

One escaped. The other is about to be unleashed.

Dinocroc vs. Supergator. The killer animals from Dinocroc (2004) and Supergator (2007) meet up and fight each other to the death!

A scientific experiment goes wrong and both animals gets free in less than a minute into the movie. They proceed to walk around and cause chaos in a nearby jungle, killing every random character that pops up for their five minute fame in this monster mash-up movie.

The lab where these mutated animals were kept at was funded by the evil money man Jason Drake (David Carradine) and as always they were made to be future military weapons (you would think they would learn not to do this by now). The other characters in this movie is your typical hero’s, including «The Cajun» which is hired to kill the two animals. You will forget all of them within five minutes after the movie has ended anyways.

goblinGenre: Horror
Year: 2010
Country: USA

Director: Jeffrey Scott Lando
Starring: Gil Bellows, Tracy Spiridakos, Camille Sullivan, Donnelly Rhodes, Reilly Dolman

He wants you badly.

The Perkins family is going to spend the upcoming Halloween at a cabin out in the woods near the little town called Hollowglen. That town has a dark secret that goes back to the 1800’s when the town was cursed after their annual ritual of sacrificing a baby for good fortune.

The curse made a goblin appear from the fire, haunting the town and wanting an infant baby every Halloween since. Unfortunately for the Perkins, they are bringing their new born baby to the town and even if the older locals warn them, they find themselves being this years target of the bloodthirsty goblin.

Goblin is a Syfy movie that doesn’t suck and it isn’t a “so-bad-its-good” film either. It’s actually a quite decent horror film, although with some irritating flaws. The Goblin monster is a cool looking creature that benefits from having most of the CGI hidden under a cloak and the effects on the creature isn’t all that bad, except on the ending when the entire monster is revealed.
