Year: 2010
Country: USA

Director: Declan O’Brien
Starring: Eric Roberts, Kerem Bursin, Sara Malakul Lane, Hector Jimenez, Liv Boughn

Half-Shark. Half-Octopus. All Terror.

I’m a huge fan of The X-Files. After watching every episode there is from that show I’ve come to the conclusion that the american government have a lot of evil plans that are hidden from the public. So I have no problem buying the concept of the american government making a «secret weapon» by mutating a shark and octopus into a SHARKTOPUS.

And of course the experiment goes wrong and the S-11 (project name for the sharktopus, makes you wonder what happened to S-1 – S-10?) is free to terrorize beaches everywhere. And where do you go if you want to eat human flesh? Mexico of course!

This is a Syfy movie produced by b-movie master Roger Corman, starring Eric Roberts and a bunch of hot chicks. A LOT of chicks actually and most get a minute or two of screen time before they become food for our beloved seapet. The body count is quite high in this movie and some of them are fun and inventive. Eric Roberts is also fun to watch and look out for a cameo of Corman aswell. The sharktopus looks great considering what you would expect from a movie like this. And I can’t brag and say that I have seen a real sharktopus so I’m gonna have faith in that this was as close as a real one would be.

piranhacondaGenre: Horror
Year: 2011
Country: USA

Director: Jim Wynorski
Starring: Michael Madsen, Rachel Hunter, Shandi Finnessey, Terri Ivens, Rib Hillis

Part snake! Part fish! All killer!

Piranhaconda! The most anticipated movie of 2012! Ok, maybe not, but I’ve been waiting for it. How could a movie with such a cool title, directed by Jim Wynorski and produced by Roger Corman be bad? Scratch bad, how could it not be fun?

Michael Madsen stars as Dr. Lovegrove (heh) and with his crew he is traveling to Hawaii to find the ancient beast known as piranhaconda. When they find the beast and it’s nest they steal one of its eggs and this upsets piranhaconda very, very much. On another side of the island a film crew is busy working on a new slasher flick starring the beautiful Kimmy (Shandi Finnessey) and stuntman Jack (Rib Hillis). Put in screenplay supervisor Rose (Terri Ivens) and you got yourself a love triangle to add to the mix.

Piranhaconda will remind you of another Syfy movie directed by Wynorski – Dinocroc vs. Supergator. Both movies where mostly filmed in Kaua’i in Hawaii and they sadly even decided to use the exact same locations on both movies. They could even be filmed back to back for all i know, but it’s something that brings down Piranhaconda a bit since I saw Dinocroc vs. Supergator first.

Dinocroc vs. Supergator

dinocrocvssupergatorGenre: Horror / Action
Year: 2010
Country: USA

Director: Jim Wynorski
Starring: David Carradine, Corey Landis, Amy Rasimas, Rib Hillis, John Callahan

One escaped. The other is about to be unleashed.

Dinocroc vs. Supergator. The killer animals from Dinocroc (2004) and Supergator (2007) meet up and fight each other to the death!

A scientific experiment goes wrong and both animals gets free in less than a minute into the movie. They proceed to walk around and cause chaos in a nearby jungle, killing every random character that pops up for their five minute fame in this monster mash-up movie.

The lab where these mutated animals were kept at was funded by the evil money man Jason Drake (David Carradine) and as always they were made to be future military weapons (you would think they would learn not to do this by now). The other characters in this movie is your typical hero’s, including «The Cajun» which is hired to kill the two animals. You will forget all of them within five minutes after the movie has ended anyways.

The Masque of the Red Death

Year: 1964
Country: USA

Director: Roger Corman
Starring: Vincent Price, Hazel Court, Jane Asher, David Weston, Nigel Green

Horror has a face

Prince Prospero regularly has big masquerade balls at his castle with his guests being selected people who are allowed to stay there and keep safe from the plague called “Red Death” that is haunting the country. Prospero is also a satanist so these festivities have a lot of abuse, humiliation and sadistic sexual acts.

He occasionally travels outside of his castle to invite new people into his demented society. In a dirty little village he comes across Gino who is not happy to see the Prince and gives him attitude. He takes Gino, his lovely girlfriend Francesca and her father Ludovico with him to the castle for his own amusement and tries to put Gino and Ludovico against each other in a fight for survival. However, death is creeping around the corner and Prospero’s plans and safety might not go as he hopes after all.

The Masque of the Red Death is based on two Edgar Allan Poe stories, the first has the same title as the movie and the second is called Hop-Frog. It’s the seventh of Roger Corman’s eight Poe adaptation and it is widely regarded as one of his absolute best films.
